VENUE: The NEC, Birmingham
EVENT DATE: October 2007
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 1,000

One of the world's leading Professional Services providers approached Impulse Events for the second year running to produce the party on the first night of its annual conference.

The venue had already been selected and the Managing Partner had selected the theme, which resulted in a fixed brief and a challenging budget to achieve an event of this scale.

The biggest challenge was to create a lively atmosphere in a very large space, built to house trade exhibitions; therefore we had to reduce the amount of space used for the event as much as possible. The venue was draped from floor to ceiling in black and a hand painted Hawaiian backdrop was sourced from a specialist supplier in the USA.

The centre piece of the event was two full size indoor beach volleyball courts! These courts required 100 tons of sand to be laid into a specialist constructed tank, which presented a unique challenge given we had only 24 hours to create the courts, use them and then remove them; through dedicated logistical planning this was achieved with a fleet of 10 dumper trucks, co-ordination with the local quarry and lots of hard work! The result was spectacular with teams competing throughout the event for the 'Hawaii beach super cup'.

The Hawaiian beach theme was brought to life with a huge selection of props, arriving in an articulated lorry including surf boards, surf simulators, deck chairs, barrels and a coconut shy (bringing a bit of Blackpool to Hawaii!) and over 300 palm trees.

The event featured an exceptional entertainment line-up on the main stage including an Elvis impersonator who performed hits from 'Blue Hawaii', a Polynesian dance troupe, a flame limbo performer and our Impulse resident Dj.

The highlight of the evening was, without the doubt the breaking of the world record for the biggest ever Luau dance!

A time lapse video of the event is available on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RalMtXn7Z2U
