Impulse Events CSR Policy

Filed under: Uncategorised — jamie @ 12:27 pm

We believe that we should have a positive impact on our environment and aim to enforce this throughout every aspect of our operations, whether in our own office, at our events, or when selecting third party suppliers

We seek to minimise the effect our office based operations have on the environment and produce live events with the minimum of impact.

We strive to create a positive working environment for our team members and encourage learning, and well being within out team.

We work with like minded suppliers and encourage them to follow our lead whether it be recycling event components, sourcing local produce, or hiring local crew.
How do we do it?

Environment

We actively seek to reduce our impact on the environment both within our office, and at events.

Within the office we recycle and reuse all waste paper products, recycle all used ink cartridges, have switched to energy efficient light bulbs.

We also seek to create a positive working environment for our staff and have recently introduced several oxygen producing plants to the office.

At events we actively seek to minimise our impact on the environment, using recycled carpets and low energy LED lighting. We attempt to re-use stage sets and props, as well and consolidating transport to and from the venue.

We work with our catering partners to recycle all bottles, minimise waste and source sensitively farmed, local produce.

During our 2007 Christmas party season we recycled over 25,000 beer and wine bottles.

Where possible we also encourage our clients to be sensitive to the environment when holding live events,

We encourage our client to reduce the amount of paper they waste through print, and encourage e-invites instead of a printed version
Community

We are active in the community and regularly support charity initiatives as well as offering discounts to health and other key workers.

We also offer event products which have a positive impact on the environment such as out responsible team building events at which you can renovate a local park or decorate a local hospital.

We use ‘local’ crew companies to ensure we are hiring staff from the immediate locality of the event, these crew are encouraged to travel to the event by public transport or by walking/bicycle.

Yellow, Blue & Green draping covered the building along with Palm trees and the effect was finished with festoon lighting for that auhetic street look! The atmosphere was kept alive with LED lighting to the outside areas and a specially designed sound system to keep the tunes pumping…

Caipirinha’s were mixed long into the night, whilst service bars were spread throughout the building to make sure everyone could pick up a Brahma!

Smoking at events - Some solutions

Filed under: General — jamie @ 4:32 pm

Since the smoking ban came into effect on July 1 2007, partygoers have been quick to appreciate the cleaner air (and their reduced dry cleaning bills). But for venues, the law change has created a host of challenges. Venue owners are urgently colonising every inch of outdoor space to accommodate smokers, and hi-tech heaters and canopies are being installed to protect them from the elements.

As balmy summer evenings give way to the chilly nights of autumn, the difficulties are only going to increase. ‘With the Christmas party season approaching, we need to start addressing these concerns,’ says Jamie Simon, a director at Impulse Events. ‘For us it’s about trying to minimise the impact now – because in six to eight months the ban will seem completely normal.’

He identifies the disruption caused by crowds of smokers on the streets as one of the biggest obstacles. ‘Our flagship christmas partyvenue, the Hellenic Centre in Marylebone, is a prime example of the effects of people smoking on the street in a residential area. After 11pm we have a duty to the venue’s neighbours not to be noisy.’ The key, according to Simon, is investing in effective crowd control over the smoking area. Some clubs, for example, have implemented a one-in-one-out system in their smoking areas, while bosses at Hotel du Vin, the mini-chain of boutique hotels, have hit on an ingenious way to work within the law and prevent too much noise, by creating ‘Cigar Shacks’ in the hotel’s gardens. Smokers can puff away in the bandstand-like huts thanks to a warm air curtain and underfloor heating.

Meanwhile, some venues are attempting to capitalize on the ban by introducing innovative drink options to help those trying to quit. Pearl Restaurant and Bar is offering the ‘Nicotini’, a cocktail containing – you guessed it – nicotine; a blend of Havana seven-year-old rum infused with a Montecristo #4 cigar, mixed with Kahlua, lemon juice, Demerara sugar syrup and egg white. At Floridita, a new range of tobacco-based cocktails include the Tobacco Old Fashioned and Smokey Old Fashioned.

But there is one more problem in the post-ban world that few anticipated: smell. The Cuckoo Club in Mayfair has been quick to recognise that the smell of smoke – while unpleasant – had been masking a whole host of other nasty niffs. Their solution? To spritz the entire place hundreds of times a night with £1,260-a-bottle Clive Christian No. 1. But expensive scents aren’t the only option. Uber-chain Mitchells & Butler is blazing a trail for smaller venues by testing freshly mown grass, sea breeze and leather smells in some of its 2,000 pubs. Rentokil-Initial, which provides Marriott hotels with bar perfumes, is trying out the smell of Mojito.

The challenges faced by the industry are numerous, but what about the benefits? Once the industry has adjusted, it will have time to savour the aesthetic gains – no more cigarette burns in expensive carpets and furniture, for example. Kate Woods of the Silver Sturgeon changed her plans for the boat’s refurbishment to include beige leather banquettes once she knew people would no longer be lighting up on board.

Who would’ve known that the ban could improve the look of venues as much as the looks (and health) of their guests?

Personal Service

Filed under: Uncategorised — jamie @ 3:56 pm

Personal service is something that many offer, but very few actually deliver.

At Impulse Events Ltd we place the personal service we offer our clients at the very top of our priority list.

Many of our clients have had the same account manager for several years, and some may have only ever dealt with that person.

We don’t believe in sending in a salesperson to sell you an event, then passing you to an operations manager, before a total stranger, your ‘event manager’ greets you on the day at your event.

We passionately believe in building partnerships with our clients, and that the best way to do this is to have one person who manages your events, knows your business and hopefully connects with you on a personal level.

If you are interested in building a partnership, please call Simon Mitchell on 0208 203 7473 to arrange a meeting.
